Introduction

PowerBI is a data visualization tool used for exploring and visualizing datasets. PowerBI offers an array of visualization such as cards, tables, graphs, plots, KPI visualizations and so many more.

PowerBI can be used to build a plethora of dashboards which include customer segmentation dashboard, sales analysis dashboard, people analytics dashboards, marketing insight dashboards, finance dashboards, performance dashboards, and so many more.

A technical report is an article that describes the processes and results of a project. It is a report conveying information about a project in an objective and fact based manner. A technical report also proffers solution to a problem, recommends action and aids decision making.

A technical report of your PowerBI dashboard explains the procedures involved in creating the dashboard, provides insights gotten from the dashboard and also explains the trends and metrics gotten from the dataset.

As a data analyst, Writing a technical report about your power BI dashboard shows a proper understanding of the dataset and also shows an avid understanding of the procedures involved in making the dashboard, it also helps in proper communication of the details of the dashboard to your audience.

Steps involved in writing a technical report of your Power BI dashboard.

Steps involved can be divided into four parts which include; Introduction, Data Cleaning and Preparation, Data Analysis and Insights, and Strategic Recommendations

Introduction : The introduction of your technical report should highlight the description of the dataset, the records present in it, number of columns and rows, the names of the columns in the dataset, the description of the values in all rows. The introduction should basically give a general overview of what the dataset looks like and should be able to paint a picture of what the dataset looks like to the audience.

Data cleaning and preparation: The data cleaning and preparation part is one of the pivotal part of your technical report. While writing this part, each process carried out in cleaning your dataset should be explained acutely. Each procedure carried out in the power query editor of the PowerBI should be highlighted.

Some of the steps such as merging columns, removal of null values, renaming some columns, removal of irrelevant spaces, etc should be explained and reasons for taking each step should be expounded.

Analysis and insights: This is the most crucial part of your technical report, it gives the audience the insights the dashboard provides.

In this part, you also list the various questions that led to the development of the various charts in the dashboard. Every chart in the dashboard is an answer to a question asked by the data analyst, hence these questions should be highlighted and the charts answering these questions should be added to the report.

Furthermore, this part of your report should also show the connection of the various charts to another, it should explain the story behind your dashboard.

Strategic recommendations: This is the last part of the technical report. This part should provide valuable recommendations gotten from the dashboard.

A data analyst should have a sterling and deep understanding of the metrics and trends in the dashboard to be able to proffer strategic recommendations to the audience. Profitable solutions should also be highlighted in this part.

In conclusion, following the procedures above gives a sterling and detailed PowerBI report that speaks extensively for the Data Analyst.
